BDIL Marks 50 Years With Focus on Indigenous Defence Technology

The company applies systems engineering expertise to autonomous, unmanned and tactical communications capabilities

Mumbai. Bharati Defence & Infrastructure Limited (BDIL) on June 23 marked its 50th anniversary by refocusing its core mission: leveraging five decades of complex systems engineering to deliver advanced defence technology capabilities for the Indian Armed Forces.

Founded in 1976, BDIL built expertise in maritime and infrastructure systems-systems integration, reliability under extreme constraints, and uncompromising quality standards. This DNA now powers a new generation of capabilities aligned to India’s defence modernisation.

Current Capabilities in Development:

BDIL, in collaboration with Exicom Technologies, is developing software-defined secure networks and MANET solutions, with platform-specific datalinks engineered for Tejas, LCH, C-130, and other critical applications. The SENTINEL programme-a semi-autonomous combat modernisation kit for the T-72 Ajeya-represents BDIL’s flagship wholly indigenous system, with Phase II extending capabilities to rotary-wing platforms, surface vessels, and multi-domain operations. BDIL is also developing indigenous loitering munitions and specialised unmanned systems engineered to operational requirements.

On the company’s evolution, Sandeep Agarwal, Chairman, said, “Fifty years ago, Bharati committed to building complex systems for India. That mission remains unchanged-the arena has evolved. Our experience in managing multi-year integration cycles and delivering mission-critical performance directly translates to defence technology. SENTINEL represents our entry into a space where India must lead. Shipbuilding remains part of our strategic roadmap-we will share more in coming months.”

BDIL views its defence technology work as an extension of its core competency: systems integration and reliability, delivered to operational standards and in deep partnership with the Armed Forces.
