Open Cosmos Strengthens India Ties

CEO Rafel Jordà meets Prime Minister Modi, Minister of Finance Sitharaman and President Murmu during three-day visit to India. While visiting partners across Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai, CEO Rafel Jordà held discussions with industry leaders on launches, Earth observation and connectivity

New Delhi. Open Cosmos, the European space company building satellites to understand and connect the world, is strengthening its relationships in India as Founder and CEO Rafel Jordà Siquier visits the country this week.

The visit marks an important step in Open Cosmos’ plans to strengthen its presence in India, building relationships with government and industry partners.

Rafel Jordà met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shared with his office the strong potential for the Indian and European private sector to collaborate in telecommunication constellations, global Earth observation sensing systems and launches.

Trade and investment conversations, alongside the Liechtenstein delegation, were held with the minister of Finance Sitharaman, where Open Cosmos expressed its interest in investing in India – building on the ecosystem of partners it has been working with for years. Commercial trade is at the heart of the relationships. Open Cosmos is growing in India and the company is looking to capitalise growth, drawing on India’s strengths in space technology and launch capabilities.

The visit comes as India accelerates its ambitions under Prime Minister Modi’s Space Vision 2047, which seeks to establish the country as a leading global space power through technological self-reliance, private sector investment and sovereign space capabilities. With India’s space economy projected to reach $44 billion by 2033, Open Cosmos is keen to learn from, engage with, and contribute to the country’s growing space sector.

Rafel Jordà had the privilege of joining various other members of the Liechtenstein international affairs and business delegation, led by H. S. H. Hereditary Prince Alois, Regent of the Principality of Lichtenstein, at a dinner at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Hosting the delegation was President of the Republic of India, Draupadi Murmu, Vice President of India, C P Radhakrishnan and the Union Minister for External Affairs of India, S Jaishankar, alongside a delegation of Indian representatives.

Rafel Jordà Siquier, Founder and CEO of Open Cosmos, said, “India is one of the world’s most important space powers, with exceptional engineering talent, an established launch industry and a clear national ambition for the future. We see enormous potential not only in what India is building for itself, but in the role, it can play in shaping the next generation of global space infrastructure.”

He added, “Our visit is about listening, building relationships and exploring where we might collaborate and grow for the long term. Our vision is to work with India, not simply provide services to it.”

Open Cosmos hopes to explore partnerships across the country’s space and telecommunications ecosystem, including industrial collaboration and technology development, and to learn from Indian expertise along the way. During his three-day visit, Rafel Jordà has met partners across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai to foster strong relationships in private and public organisations.

Rafel Jordà continued, “The future of space will not be defined by who operates the most satellites, but by how effectively they work together and what they enable us to do. As communications, Earth observation and AI infrastructure grows in space we need to make our systems interoperable to resiliently connect and understand the world we live in.”

“India has the scale, expertise and ambition to play a major role in that future. We hope to grow alongside its competitive space ecosystem – with nations strengthening their own capabilities while benefiting from international cooperation,” he said.

Open Cosmos recently completed a €300 million funding round and operates four satellite production facilities across Europe, expanding its ability to deliver satellite missions at scale.

As India continues to open its space sector to commercial investment and international collaboration, Open Cosmos looks forward to building on its initial engagement with the nation’s government and industry.

Open Cosmos is a European space infrastructure company that designs, builds and operates satellite missions end-to-end. Through its platforms – OpenOrbit, ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos – the company provides governments, institutions and enterprises with secure communications, Earth observation and real-time intelligence services. Open Cosmos operates facilities across the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece, supporting missions for customers across Europe and international markets.
