Lt Gen Sandeep Jain Appointed as New Vice-Chief of Army Staff

New Delhi. Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain has officially assumed the prestigious role of Vice-Chief of the Army Staff, bringing extensive operational expertise and leadership experience to the Indian Army’s second-highest position.

Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain today, July 2, officially assumed the appointment of the Vice-Chief of the Army Staff. An alumnus of the renowned National Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the MAHAR Regiment in June 1988, marking the beginning of a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades.

His operational background is vast and diverse, featuring extensive service in some of the most challenging environments. He has actively participated in Operation Pawan and served as a Military Observer with the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia. Furthermore, he has completed multiple tenures in high-altitude regions and has extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations along the Line of Control and in the North East.

The General Officer also commanded a Sector in the UN Mission in South Sudan. Upon his promotion to Lieutenant General, he commanded a Corps in the Northern Command. He later served as Chief of Staff at Headquarters Southern Command, where he contributed significantly to capability development, force restructuring, and overall operational preparedness. Prior to this appointment, he served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command.

Throughout his tenure in the Indian Army, Lt Gen Jain has been recognised for his profound understanding of modern warfare and strategic planning.
