During his career at BEL, he has held various important assignments and has made significant contributions in the areas of Human Resources, workforce development, digital transformation, employee engagement and organisational capability building. As General Manager of BEL’s Kotdwar Unit, Ambrish Tripathi provided holistic leadership for the HR function, aligning people policies with organisational objectives, strategic frameworks and corporate directives. He translated his strategic HR vision into measurable outcomes through structured policy implementation, governance excellence, workforce capability enhancement and institutional capacity building.
Under his leadership, the Kotdwar Unit registered 75% growth during the previous year and received the Platinum recognition under the CII Excellence programme. The Unit was also conferred the Kalinga Safety Award. Quality Circles from the Unit were recognised at global forums in consecutive years, reflecting the strong focus on quality, productivity and continuous improvement.
Being located in a remote area, retention of skilled manpower was a major challenge. Ambrish Tripathi introduced innovative recruitment and workforce engagement strategies, including campus recruitment from regional colleges, recruitment of Ex-Servicemen for supervisory roles and engagement of trained manpower through avenues such as Advanced Trainees after completion of apprenticeship. These initiatives resulted in zero attrition during the past two years and induction of more than 150 professionals.
He also focused on capability development through structured learning and skill enhancement programmes. These initiatives enabled the existing workforce to develop the Kawach system for Indian Railways in record time. He also maintained stable and productive industrial relations through proactive engagement, contributing to a conducive work environment and enabling the Kotdwar Unit to achieve a turnover of Rs 1,058 crores.
Ambrish Tripathi has also driven a positive cultural shift towards fostering a mindset of action, accountability and result orientation. He spearheaded CSR initiatives of more than Rs 15 crores aimed at addressing regional and national priorities. Earlier, as AGM at the Integrated Software Complex (ISCO), he contributed to IT initiatives for smooth onboarding and early establishment of Gen Z employees. Integration of learning platforms such as ‘Udemy’ and ‘Coursera’ with BEL’s IT infrastructure helped transform the learning culture of the organisation.
Speaking on his vision as Director (HR), Ambrish Tripathi said that his vision is to make HR a strategic partner in organisational success by transforming it from an administrative function into a proactive driver of growth, innovation and employee excellence. He envisages a future-ready PSU powered by a competent, committed and agile workforce that embodies the highest standards of ethics, transparency and customer-focused approach. His mission will be to attract, develop and retain the best talent by fostering a culture of continuous learning, performance orientation and holistic well-being. He intends to leverage cutting-edge HR technology to ensure seamless, objective and transparent processes, while creating an inclusive and empowering workplace where every individual can thrive and contribute to the national mission of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Ambrish Tripathi said that his goal will be to align HR strategies with the long-term objectives of BEL and Government of India directives, thereby enhancing efficiency, productivity and the overall quality of work-life balance, while making BEL an employer of choice. His strategic objectives include Talent Transformation, moving beyond traditional recruitment towards Precision Talent Acquisition and attracting top-tier professionals by offering a value proposition that combines the stability of a PSU with the opportunity to contribute to high-impact national projects.
Another key focus area will be Agile Leadership, with emphasis on cultivating a leadership pipeline at every level and nurturing future leaders through emotional intelligence, change management and preparedness to address the complexities of future challenges. Under Inclusive Wellbeing, the focus will be on expanding the definition of employee welfare to encompass holistic work-life balance, flexible smart-office models and personalised career pathways that align individual aspirations with organisational goals.
Digital Transformation will be another major thrust area, with a transition towards AI-driven HR platforms for seamless employee lifecycle management, from automated onboarding to real-time performance analytics. This will help strengthen transparency, meritocracy and data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
Ambrish Tripathi has been instrumental in transforming the HR function through digitisation and alignment of organisational objectives with technological advancements. His experience in strategic HR management, capability development, employee engagement and digital transformation is expected to further strengthen BEL’s human capital and support the company’s continued growth and its contribution to the national mission of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
