Raghu Vamsi Bets Big on AP with Rs 500 Crore Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Hub

Hyderabad-based Raghu Vamsi Machine Tools has announced plans to establish a major aerospace and defence manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of ₹500 crore, marking another significant step in India’s expanding indigenous defence production ecosystem.

The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) to set up the advanced manufacturing complex spread across nearly 100 acres. The proposed facility is expected to focus on aerospace components, precision engineering, unmanned aerial systems, propulsion technologies and critical defence manufacturing.

According to industry reports, the project is likely to generate around 1,000 direct jobs and nearly 2,000 indirect employment opportunities through ancillary industries, logistics networks and supply chain operations. The initiative is also expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s ambitions to emerge as a major aerospace and defence manufacturing destination.

The proposed investment comes at a time when India is accelerating efforts to build a self-reliant defence industrial base under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. The central government has increasingly encouraged private sector participation in strategic manufacturing areas traditionally dominated by public sector units and defence research organisations.

Raghu Vamsi Machine Tools, part of the larger Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group, has steadily expanded its footprint in aerospace and defence manufacturing over recent years. The company already operates multiple manufacturing locations across India, the United States and the United Kingdom and supplies precision-engineered components and subsystems to global aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The group has built capabilities in CNC precision machining, aero-engine components, missile subsystems and advanced defence technologies. Industry sources indicate that the new Andhra Pradesh facility will likely complement the company’s existing deep-tech and aerospace infrastructure in Hyderabad.

In December 2025, the group launched its “Citadel Campus” near Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with an investment of over ₹100 crore. The facility included advanced infrastructure for design, assembly, testing and integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and autonomous defence systems.

The company had also unveiled six indigenous UAV and autonomous defence platforms developed under its deep-tech division “Arrobot,” signalling its ambitions to become a major private-sector player in next-generation defence technologies.

The Andhra Pradesh project is expected to focus on high-precision manufacturing for aerospace and defence applications, including micro turbojet engines, advanced components and systems integration. Analysts say the investment aligns with India’s broader push to reduce dependence on imports for strategic military technologies.

The timing of the investment is also notable because India is currently pursuing several ambitious indigenous aerospace programmes, including the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), next-generation unmanned systems and indigenous aero-engine development projects.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently launched infrastructure projects linked to the ₹15,803 crore AMCA programme in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district, underlining the growing strategic importance of the state in India’s future aerospace ecosystem.

Industry experts believe that private manufacturing ecosystems will play a crucial role in supporting future Indian aerospace programmes. Advanced fighter aircraft, missile systems and unmanned platforms require complex supply chains involving precision machining, advanced materials, propulsion systems and electronics integration.

India’s aerospace and defence market is projected to grow rapidly over the next decade due to rising defence expenditure, geopolitical tensions and increasing emphasis on domestic manufacturing. According to industry estimates, the sector could witness sustained annual growth driven by indigenous procurement and export opportunities.

For Raghu Vamsi Machine Tools, the Andhra Pradesh expansion represents both a business opportunity and a strategic positioning move within India’s evolving defence-industrial landscape. The company’s growing involvement in deep-tech manufacturing, propulsion systems and unmanned technologies reflects the wider transformation underway in India’s private defence sector.

Nevertheless, the Andhra Pradesh project signals increasing confidence among Indian private firms in the long-term growth potential of the country’s aerospace and defence industries. With government support for indigenous manufacturing continuing to rise, projects such as Raghu Vamsi’s new facility could contribute significantly to India’s ambitions of becoming a global defence manufacturing and export hub.
