Tirupati Forge Weighs Global Tie-Ups to Enter 155mm Shell Market

Mumbai. Tirupati Forge Ltd is in discussions with international defence manufacturers regarding strategic manufacturing partnerships as the BSE-listed company prepares to enter the artillery ammunition component segment, according to people familiar with the matter.

The preliminary-stage talks involve potential partners in Europe, where governments continue working to translate rearmament commitments into deliverable shell output. Europe’s combined 155mm production reached approximately 1.2 million to 1.3 million shells annually by the end of 2025, up from 300,000 to 400,000 prior to the conflict in Ukraine.

Rajkot based Tirupati Forge plans to produce 155mm M107 empty shell bodies, 152mm shell bodies, and ERFB BB/BT shell bodies, targeting an annual capacity of 150,000 units once production commences. The company’s manufacturing facilities currently hold IATF 16949:2016 and CE PED AD certifications.

“We are actively exploring manufacturing partnerships to build scalable, high-precision, and dependable supply relationships,” said Om Thumar, Head of Sales and Marketing at Tirupati Forge Ltd. “With our certified forging infrastructure, our objective is to support international partners seeking high-volume, reliable production capacity to meet growing global defence requirements.”

The initiative comes as procurement teams across NATO nations broaden their supplier networks beyond traditional Western manufacturers. Rheinmetall AG, Germany’s largest defence contractor, is targeting an annual output of 1.5 million 155mm shells by 2027, a figure that would surpass the combined output of the entire US defence industry.
