Logistics to the Skies: TVS SCS and Italy’s ALA Group Form Aerospace Supply Chain Alliance

TVS Supply Chain Solutions has partnered with Italy’s ALA Group in a 51:49 joint venture to tap India’s booming aerospace corridors

The infrastructure backing India’s defence modernisation is shifting from basic transportation to highly specialised engineering networks. In a significant commercial development, TVS Supply Chain Solutions (TVS SCS) announced a 51:49 joint venture with Italy-based aerospace supply chain titan ALA Group. The strategic partnership marks the formal entry of the TVS Mobility Group company into India’s high-growth aerospace and defence logistics sectors, which are expanding rapidly due to ongoing localisation mandates.

The initial investments for the alliance are precisely calibrated, totaling roughly 2 million euros. TVS SCS will inject up to ₹10.19 crore into the venture through its wholly-owned subsidiary, TVS Packaging Solutions, to secure its 51% controlling stake. Concurrently, ALA Group will contribute up to ₹9.80 crore for its 49% share. The legal formalities and corporate setup are moving quickly and are expected to reach completion by September 30, 2026. Looking ahead, the alliance is entering the market with ambitious fiscal targets, eyeing cumulative revenues exceeding ₹2,000 crore by 2031.

The underlying market metrics explain the aggressive expansion. India’s domestic defence logistics ecosystem is currently growing at a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6%. Furthermore, according to R Dinesh, Executive Chairman of TVS SCS, the sector operates on much healthier margins than standard freight moving. Traditional logistics businesses typically generate pre-tax margins of 4% to 5%. In contrast, the high-value, high-precision nature of military component tracking commands premium profit-before-tax margins in the 8% to 10% range, supported by long-term contracts and high switching costs.

Operating a supply chain inside defence manufacturing requires clearing immense barriers to entry. Aerospace components demand strict end-to-end traceability, specialised temperature-controlled environments, and complex international regulatory certifications. Rather than build capabilities from scratch, the joint venture handles these friction points by blending the local execution footprint of TVS SCS with the global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships of Naples-based ALA Group, which brings over 35 years of experience and 1,500 suppliers to the table.

The operational framework is designed to deliver a comprehensive suite of end-to-end logistics capabilities. The joint venture will specialise in integrated solutions including the sourcing and supply of critical aerospace components, inventory optimisation, and specialised international import consolidation. Furthermore, the business will manage deep kitting operations and sub-assembly tasks alongside strategic warehousing near key defence clusters to ensure mission-critical fulfillment.

This synergy gives global aerospace majors like Airbus, Boeing, Safran, and Rolls-Royce a specialised domestic logistics platform as they increase their manufacturing output within the subcontinent.

Initially, the venture will focus its efforts on securing market share within the domestic Indian defence corridors, capitalising on the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat localisation initiatives.

However, over the long term, both entities plan to leverage TVS SCS’s existing UK Ministry of Defence relationships – where defence and utility contracts already make up 30% of its European revenue – to scale their aerospace operations into select international markets across Europe and North America.
