Five New Pyro Cartridges Unveiled by DRDO’s HEMRL

New Delhi: DRDO’s HEMRL has successfully developed five different types of Pyro Cartridges specifically designed for underwater applications. These cartridges are essential components used in various underwater systems such as torpedoes, rockets, and decoys, serving critical roles like ignition and triggering.

This handover represents a significant milestone in the indigenous development of underwater armament technology, demonstrating India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence systems. The pyro cartridges were delivered to the Indian Navy in Pune, marking the operationalisation of indigenous high-energy materials in undersea weaponry.

Pyro Cartridges are specialised ignition devices that initiate the propulsion or functioning of underwater weapons and systems. Their reliable performance under harsh underwater conditions is vital for the effective operation of naval weapons like torpedoes and underwater rockets.
