EIE GROUP Targets Strategic Space Partnerships in India

Italian engineering leader EIE GROUP is returning to India for the Bengaluru Space Expo (BSX) 2026, leveraging decades of astronomical infrastructure experience to shape joint space exploration and defence technologies

Italian deep-tech specialist EIE GROUP has officially announced its participation in the upcoming Bengaluru Space Expo (BSX) 2026 as part of the official Italian Pavilion. With over 35 years of experience in delivering complex systems for major scientific infrastructures, the company aims to highlight its capabilities across astronomy, astrophysics, defence and space applications.

From Giant Telescopes to Deep-Space Frontiers

EIE GROUP’s engineering pedigree is tied to some of the world’s most significant astronomical projects, including LSST, VLT, ALMA, LBT, SKA and ASTRI. Most notably, the company stands as the only entity globally awarded the design for both the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) and its massive dome structure by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). Operating under extreme conditions, the firm delivers end-to-end integration – from initial concept and mechanical movement to structural stability, pointing accuracy and final commissioning.

Gianpietro Marchiori, President of EIE GROUP said, “Cooperation between Italy and India can create an effective connection between scientific excellence and industrial innovation. In this context, Europe’s experience in astronomical infrastructures and space support systems can meet the dynamism of India’s rapidly developing space ecosystem.”

Bridging Ground Support and Flight Hardware

Transitioning its ground-based observatory expertise into flight systems, EIE GROUP offers dedicated support equipment and testing frameworks critical for modern space missions:

  • Ground Support Equipment (GSE): Specialised Mechanical (MGSE), Optical (OGSE) and Test Ground Support Equipment (TSE) designed to safeguard payloads during integration and testing campaigns.
  • Optomechanical Design: Custom, low-mass prototyping for spaceborne instruments focused on Solar System exploration and Earth observation.
  • Advanced Metrology: Alignment and verification suites built to ensure payload survival under harsh launch environments and long-term orbital deployment.
LSST Project: The dome of the Vera C. Observatory. Rubin is a true masterpiece of mechanical and structural engineering. It is not a simple protective roof, but a fundamental dynamic system designed to move in perfect sync with the very fast movements of the telescope

These technical capabilities bridge the gap between heavy ground infrastructure and flight-ready payloads, applying high-precision thermal control, positioning accuracy and structural stability across radar antennas, deep-space networks and satellite ground segments.

Strengthening the Italy-India Space Corridor

EIE GROUP’s presence in Bengaluru follows its involvement in the 2025 Italian National Study Mission to India, organised alongside the Italian Space Agency. Participation in BSX 2026 signals a move to convert mutual institutional understanding into concrete industrial initiatives, joint-development programmes and co-designed solutions.

By uniting European systems engineering with India’s rapidly expanding space ecosystem, EIE GROUP aims to deliver the reliable, verifiable industrial processes needed for the next generation of space exploration.
