Tel Aviv: The largest loitering weapon system Hero 1250, developed by Israeli company Uvision has generated great interest in some European companies and it may be the next joint programme of the Uvision and German company Rheinmetall.
Uvision and Rheinmetall maintain a strategic partnership formed in October 2021 to market, co-produce, and supply the Hero family of loitering weapon systems. The cooperation agreement was signed in October 2021 to address the rapidly growing European demand for precision remote-controlled air effectors.
Manufacturing and warhead integration are handled via Rheinmetall’s Italian subsidiary, RWM Italia, at facilities in Musei and Domusnovas in Sardinia. Uvision established a dedicated regional subsidiary, Uvision Europe GmbH, to align with European regulatory and defence frameworks.
The joint effort has secured contracts exceeding €250 million across multiple European NATO members. Rheinmetall has accelerated production of Hero loitering munitions.
The Hero 1250, as the largest in Uvision’s fleet of strategic systems, is armed with a 50 kg warhead. Israeli sources say that this substantial payload, combined with its remarkable long-range flight capabilities of 200 km, positions the Hero 1250 as a highly potent and indispensable weapon in military strategy. With its extended reach and devastating firepower, the Hero 1250 provides an unparalleled advantage in achieving mission success and effectively neutralising high-value targets.
The sources pointed out that beyond its primary role, the Hero 1250’s size and payload capacity allow it to perform a range of additional missions enroute to the target. This includes intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) tasks, where it can carry payloads for SIGINT (signals intelligence) and COMJAM (communications jamming), expanding its versatility on the battlefield.
Moreover, the Hero 1250 can be utilised for anti-radiation missions (ARM) to neutralise enemy air defence systems. With its extended capabilities and payload capacity, the Hero 1250 offers a wide range of mission types, making it a highly adaptable and effective platform for various operational requirements. The Hero 1250 excels in delivering superior performance and operational flexibility – be it engaging targets with its warhead or conducting auxiliary missions.
