Hyderabad. Hyderabad-based defence technology firm Drogo Aerospace has successfully handed over its initial batch of 41 indigenously developed JK-250e surveillance drones to the Indian Army under a landmark contract.
The initial delivery, officially received by officers of the Indian Army’s Southern Command in Nashik, Maharashtra, marks a major milestone in India’s ongoing push for self-reliance in military hardware. Valued at £7.2 million (₹72 crore), the total contract covers the production of 217 tactical unmanned aerial systems. Following this successful initial rollout, Drogo Aerospace is on track to deliver the remaining 176 aircraft by August 2026.
Engineering Localised Tactical Overwatch
Designed and manufactured entirely in-house at the firm’s Hyderabad facilities, the JK-250e has been specifically engineered to meet the military’s stringent requirements for frontline intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).
The platform offers a decisive tactical advantage for border monitoring, featuring an advanced high-capacity battery system that enables it to remain airborne for up to three hours on a single charge.
The Drogo Aerospace contract road map unfolds across three main strategic phases. In the initial batch phase, the company successfully delivered 41 JK-250e drones to the Southern Command to support frontline intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. Alongside this operational milestone, the company executed a technical rebrand, transitioning from Drogo Drones to Drogo Aerospace to reflect its expanded scope encompassing satellite technologies. Finally, to achieve full production scale, the firm is building a 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Maheshwaram, which is projected to inject 500 new skilled technology jobs into the local economy.
By substituting foreign sub-systems with homegrown technology, the project directly advances New Delhi’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The capability has already drawn praise from high-level officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during recent technology demonstrations.
Evolution Into a Broader Aerospace Ecosystem
The successful delivery coincides with a significant corporate transformation. Formerly operating as Drogo Drones, the company has been rebranded as Drogo Aerospace to better reflect its expanding focus beyond quadcopters into a comprehensive aviation, satellite, and defence technology ecosystem.
“This successful induction validates our engineering expertise and manufacturing depth,” stated Yeshwanth Bonthu, Founder and CEO of Drogo Aerospace. “We are committed to delivering future-ready aerospace solutions that safeguard national sovereignty.”
To sustain this growth momentum, the company is developing a suite of next-generation defence systems, including:
- Indigenous Loitering Munitions: Precision-guided kamikaze drones for tactical strike missions.
- AI-Powered Aerial Platforms: Unmanned software capable of automated target tracking and predictive reconnaissance.
- Long-Endurance UAVs: Fixed-wing platforms built for persistent, long-range border overwatch.
Expanding the Industrial Footprint
To satisfy its growing defence order book, Drogo Aerospace is significantly expanding its industrial infrastructure. The firm has been allotted 4.5 acres of land within the state-backed Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Maheshwaram, Telangana.
Construction is underway on a state-of-the-art, 100,000-square-foot aerospace manufacturing facility. This expansion is projected to generate roughly 500 skilled technological jobs, adding to the company’s existing workforce of 300 personnel and firmly anchoring Hyderabad as a premier hub for military drone innovation.
