Tel Aviv: Israeli company Magos Systems will supply radars capable of detecting different types of drones to the Israeli defence forces (IDF). This acquisition is another part of a major effort to find a solution to the deadly fiber optic drones used by the Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Magos’ drone-detection products use MIMO beam forming radar plus AI classification to identify drones, birds, vehicles, and people, and to cue cameras or alert operators. The company says its AR-300 offers over 300 metres of UAV detection and 360-degree coverage when configured with multiple radars and a PTZ camera.
The defence ministry awarded Magos a contract worth 21 million Israel Shekels for the supply of hundreds of Magos radar units.
The radars are described as lightweight, low-power, and relatively low-cost compared with larger air-defence sensors. Magos emphasises strong performance in poor weather and low visibility, with AI helping push false alerts close to zero.
The IDF units in Lebanon are currently using metal nets to protect themselves from the deadly fiber-optic drones that has so far caused a high number of casualties.
An Israeli source said that the detection of a drone is only the basic part of the solution required. “After detection, the units need an efficient tool to neutralise the drone before it hits the target. This is now under development,” the source added.
