SAMDeS, FICCI to Organise Webinar on ‘Securing the Blue Economy’

 

New Delhi. The Society for Aerospace Maritime and Defence Studies popularly known as SAMDeS (www.samdesindia.in) led by Cmde Sujit Samaddar, NM (Retd) in collaboration with industry body Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organising a webinar on ‘Securing the Blue Economy’ on April 23. The time schedule for the webinar which will be held on Video Conferencing (VC) platform, would be of 1430-1945 hours.

SAMDeS, which is the knowledge partner for this webinar, is headed by Cmde Samaddar who is the Founder and Hony Secy of SAMDeS, and a Former Senior Consultant (Industry), NITI Aayog, Govt of India.

Inviting host of speakers from the government, industry, academia, think tanks, and serving and retired services officers from India and abroad, the webinar has five sessions in totality and includes: inaugural session, special address, two technical sessions-Technical Session 1 and Technical Session 2, and a valedictory session.

The webinar will discuss upon how various stakeholders can collaborate to keep the oceans secure, safe and sustainable. That apart this will also deliberate upon the ISR and AI technologies for the blue economy, .

Among the prominent speakers who will be in attendance include: National Maritime Foundation Chairman and former Indian Navy Chief Adm RK Dhowan (Retd), Mahindra Defence President SP Shukla, General Atomics Global Corporation Chief Executive Dr Vivek Lall, MEA Secretary Akhilesh Mishra, Navy Chief Adm Karambir Singh, Minister for Port, Shipping and Waterways Mansukh Mandaviya as well as from US, Japan, Israel and Sri Lankan Armed Forces among others.

The day-long webinar will deliberate upon the points of safety, security and sustainability in the oceans the use of new technologies of AI and ISR for the blue economy, and the marine spatial planning for the blue economy in two of its technical sessions.

It is expected that the webinar will come out with key takeaways which would be helpful in future policy making of the government and the Indian Navy in providing safety and security in high seas specially Indian Ocean Region in general and the Indo-pacific Region in particular abided by United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)and the freedom of navigation.
