Tel Aviv: As part of a series of operational tests, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Barak MRSAM air defence system successfully intercepted a fast-moving, low-altitude target over the sea, in a test conducted last week by the Indian Navy.
According to the Israeli company, the success of this naval trial represents another significant milestone in the operational readiness of the Indian Navy and adds to the dozens of successful tests conducted across India’s tri-services. This naval test follows a successful trial conducted earlier this month by the Indian Army.
The Barak MRSAM system is a result of a joint development effort between IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) and India’s Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with companies in both Israel and India.
Barak MRSAM is an advanced air defence system offering an integrated solution that includes a cutting-edge multi-mission radar, a command and control system, mobile launchers and interceptors with a range of up to 70 kilometres, providing a proven defensive capability.
The system components are installed on naval vessels, delivering comprehensive, integrated and optimised area defence. Barak MRSAM ensures multi-layered protection against a broad range of aerial threats, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
President and CEO of IAI, Boaz Levy, commented, “The successful trials highlight the uncompromising technological superiority of the air defence systems we have developed in partnership with our Indian counterparts. Barak MRSAM stands as a cornerstone of the strategic collaboration between Israel and India, once again demonstrating its proven ability to counter the most advanced aerial threats.”
VP and General Manager of IAI’s Air and Missile Defence Systems, Oded Jacobowitz, stated, “The series of successful operational trials conducted with India’s military branches reflects the depth of cooperation between IAI and our Indian partners, and the strong trust placed in our complex technological systems, developed and manufactured by the Indian defence industry in collaboration with IAI.”
