GRSE’s CSR Initiative In Association With Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math & Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP)

 

Kolkata. Maintaining the strong relationship and support to the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP), since 2009, Rear Admiral V.K. Saxena, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, GRSE, handed over a ceremonial cheque of Rs 53.08 lakh to the institute’s Life Skill Training Unit. GRSE had adopted 02 Education Development Units (EDU IV &V) and 01 Vocational Training Unit. The Company had also taken care of the renovation and repair work of IICP building which was damaged during Amphan. GRSE has also provided a Tata Winger mini bus with foldable ramps for easy transportation for differently abled children.

The Life Skill Training Unit comprises of 03 Classes covering approx. 40-45 special children who have severe multiple impairments. They are imparted training in basic academic and life oriented language and numeracy skills for achieving minimum level of self- reliance. The children, aged between 14-18 years, are trained in pre-vocation skills like block printing, making bead & junk jewellery, paper bags/ packets from newspaper, greeting cards, decorated earthen lamps, diyas, rakhis etc.

To continue with the on-going commitment to enhance the lives of the communities it operates in, GRSE, signed a new MOU with Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, which is an initiative to support 05 new Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa (GAP) Units at Ranchi. The MoU was signed in the august presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), Director (Personnel), GRSE, Swami Bodhasarananda Ji Maharaj, the Assistant General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and other senior officials of GRSE.

The new 05 Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa (GAP) units of Ramakrishna Mission includes 02 units located in Khunti and Ranchi Districts in Jharkhand and 03 units located in West Bengal from FY 2021-22 for an approx. project cost of Rs. 1.01 Crore for three years. This initiative is aimed towards holistic development of approx. 255 underprivileged tribal children of Badree, Getalsud, Kuturloba and Tupudana of Ranchi district from FY 2019-20 to 2022-23.

Under this project, in addition to conducting daily classes for academic development, daily nutritive food supplements, periodic medical check-up, health awareness classes, free-hand exercise / yoga sessions, sports activities will be undertaken for intellectual and physical development of the children. Toiletry items like toothpaste, tooth brush, soap, hair oil, socks, footwear etc. will be provided to each child for ensuring personal hygiene.

The Shipyard had also recently undertaken a project for construction of new facilities in R.B Institute for 45 special children. GRSE has constructed one class room, one hall and one auditorium cum prayer room was renovated. In the time of Covid-19 crisis and Post Super Cyclone Amphan, the shipyard participated in rebuilding the economy, by contributing Rs. 10 lakhs to the West Bengal State Emergency Relief Fund and donating Rs. 1 crore to the PM-CARES Fund. The shipyard as corporate entity is committed in taking  up different  developmental projects as a part of its CSR initiative towards improving the quality of lives of the underprivileged sections of the society and other stakeholders primarily around its facilities and anywhere in India thereby making a meaningful difference in people’s lives and strive to contribute towards sustainable development of the society.
