New Delhi: Giredmet Institute (part of the Chemical Engineering Cluster of the Rosatom State Corporation) and the Indian company Alt Metals signed a contract to establish a pilot production facility for titanium sponge at the Innoprom. India exhibition in New Delhi. The document was signed by Andrey Goliney, Director of the Chemical Engineering Division at Rosatom Nauka JSC (the managing organisation of Giredmet JSC), and Anjani Sri Murtya Sunkavali, Founder and CEO of Alt Metals.
The agreement aims to develop cooperation between Russian and Indian specialists in the field of deep processing of mineral raw materials and provides for the supply of laboratory equipment for the production of titanium sponge.
“This relates to developing the initial design data for industrial titanium sponge production with a capacity of 1,000 tons per year. During the first stage, we will conduct a study of the customer’s raw materials, conduct laboratory testing, manufacture and supply a set of laboratory equipment, and provide installation supervision, commissioning, and personnel training. We are interested in scaling the technology to industrial scale and subsequently integrating it into Indian industry,” emphasised Andrey Goliney.
The Scientific Division of the Rosatom State Corporation conducts innovative fundamental and applied research to develop nuclear and non-nuclear technologies (including closing the nuclear fuel cycle, thermonuclear fusion, and nuclear medicine); it creates science-intensive technologies for both nuclear medicine and other industries. It comprises 13 research institutes and commercial companies. They possess a developed research infrastructure, as well as their own pilot production facilities capable of fully implementing scientific concepts: from fundamental research to design developments and prototypes. Most of the division’s scientific research and development is carried out within the framework of the Unified Industry Thematic Plan.
The division’s responsibilities include testing, creating high-tech medical equipment, and new structural materials. Projects for the commercialisation of promising science-intensive technologies are also being implemented.
JSC Giredmet (part of the Scientific Division of Rosatom State Corporation) is one of Rosatom’s leading materials science research organisations. The institute was founded on September 6, 1931. It covers the full cycle: from developing enrichment methods for ores containing rare and rare-earth metals to producing high-purity substances, single crystals, and finished products for the electronics, nuclear, aviation, and space industries.
