Tel Aviv: The recent attacks by Israel on Iranian targets in Syria were aimed at stopping Tehran’s effort to build a local production site in Syria for armed UAVs.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Defence, Israel has conducted airstrikes on outposts in the Homs region of Syria, inflicting at least five casualties on the military.

The strikes early on Sunday (April 2) were the third in recent days, including an attack on Friday (March 31) that killed two military advisers with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported.

“Around 00:35 (21:35 GMT on Saturday, April 1), Israel started “an aerial aggression from the direction of northwest Beirut, targeting various outposts in Homs city and its countryside,” reported state media and Iranian news outlets citing a statement from the ministry. Some of the missiles were shot down by Syrian air defences.

Israeli spy satellites took images of the target in Syria. According to an intelligence assessment made by Israeli company Imagesat International (ISI) the alleged Israeli attack targeted the Hezbollah airport in Aldaba, Syria.

“It is evident that the aim of the attack was to damage Hezbollah’s drone capabilities.”
