Elbit Systems Awarded $280 Million Contract to Supply Precision Munitions, Defence Electronics Systems to a European Country

Haifa / Tel Aviv: European countries continue to purchase Israeli made defence systems. Elbit Systems announced April 3 that it was awarded a contract to supply, among others, precision munitions, radio and defence electronics systems as well as maintenance services to a European Country, with a cumulative value of approximately $280 million. The contract will be performed over a period of three years. The contract include electronic systems , optical systems and weapon systems.

Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems said, “These contract extensions demonstrate our customers’ continued trust in our customized products and services, as well as the sustained demand for our market leading solutions from customers across Europe.”

Last month Elbit Systems was awarded a contract to supply Electronic Warfare (EW) self-protection suites for a fighter aircraft that is being supplied to a NATO member country in Europe. As part of the contract, Elbit Systems will equip the aircraft with its EW self-protection suite, including Radar Warning Receivers (RWR) and Countermeasure Dispensing Systems (CMDS).

The operational and combat-proven RWR rapidly detects and accurately locates a wide range of enemy threats, even in a dense EW environment, enabling reliable and timely warnings to the aircrew, and an automated or manual response by the CMDS.

Elbit Systems’ digital RWR and EWC rapidly detect and accurately locate a wide range of impinging enemy threats, even in a dense EW environment, enabling reliable and timely warning to the aircrew. The digital RWR and EWC feature complete and independent threat programmability enabling seamless update of emitter libraries as well as flight data recording for pilot debriefing and training. Their low size, weight and power, as well as low life cycle costs, further increase the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the systems.

In January, Elbit was awarded a contract in an amount of approximately $70 million to supply rockets to the armed forces of a European country. The contract will be performed over a period of 3 years. Under the contract, Elbit Systems will supply 122mm extended-range rockets that are intended to significantly increase the performance and effectiveness of operations by allowing ground forces to concentrate fire at an increased range of up to 40 kilometres. The rocket offers simple autonomous operation in various weather conditions and can be ready to be launched in less than one minute.

Israeli sources said that the Rockets are part of Elbit’s Accular family of ground – ground rockets. According to Elbit, the Accular is a highly accurate, combat-proven guided rocket designed to support ground forces. Elbit says that the artillery rocket addresses urban warfare requirements and the need for near-real-time responsiveness. Accular can neutralize targets to a range of up to 40km and is especially required in areas where the use of traditional artillery is limited by terrain, distance and accuracy.

The Accular guided rocket offers simple autonomous operation under any weather conditions and can be ready to fire in less than one minute. The rocket is equipped with a unitary penetration or controlled fragmentation warhead, capable of neutralizing most of the artillery targets on the modern battlefield with minimum collateral damage.

The Accular has two operational versions: The 122mm, which is a common diameter in rocket artillery has a range of 35km with a 20kg warhead and is adaptable to existing platforms. The Accular 122mm seamlessly integrates with a wide variety of traditional launchers. The other version is a 160mm one that has a range of 40km and a 35kg warhead.
