The European Commission Launches Pilot Project with Thales to Secure the Collaboration of European Defence Fund Projects

The European Commission is conducting a pilot project to evaluate the use of a secure collaborative suite for European defence projects. This suite ensures the exchange and co-edition of documents are cybersecure and that the management of collaborative spaces are compliant with "RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED" (R-UE/EU-R) security standards

New Delhi: Real-time co-authoring on a single document and cloud-based remote collaboration have become key enablers for the successful delivery of complex projects. Until now, however, these capabilities have remained incompatible with the stringent security requirements governing projects involving restricted information.

To facilitate collaboration on European Defence Fund (EDF) projects and to ensure the highest level of data protection, the European Commission has chosen to run a pilot study with TrustNest R-Suite, a secure collaborative suite offered by Thales, world leader in high technology in defence, aerospace, cybersecurity, and digital, over a one-year period.

This solution offers an environment that meets the security requirements applicable to the Restreint Union Européenne (R-UE/EU-R) information classification for the exchange and storage of documents, telephone calls, videoconferencing and the management of collaborative workspaces, provided that it is attached to a RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED approved network.

As part of this pilot project, a key milestone has just been reached: the issuance of the Restreint Union European approval (R-UE/EU-R) by the European Commission and the ANSSI for the interconnection between R-Cloud and the Commission’s R-UE/EU-R network.

“Strengthening secure collaboration between European defence actors is a key lever for the success of EDF projects. It is essential to set up sovereign, cyber-secure and reliable digital tools, allowing the various partners to share sensitive information with confidence and in compliance with the strictest European requirements,” said Christoph Siegelin. VP Digital Transformation, Thales.

Launched in 2023, the TrustNest R-Suite application suite is hosted on the TrustNest R-Cloud platform, which has provided a secure cloud hosting solution since 2022, accredited for EU Restricted (EU-R) and French Restricted Distribution (Diffusion Restreinte – DR) information.

TrustNest R-Suite reinforces its ambition to become the trusted collaborative environment of choice for major French and European strategic programmes. It provides a comprehensive portfolio of secure services and access points, enabling all stakeholders to connect within a trusted ecosystem and accelerate end-to-end collaboration.
