New Manufacturing Plant of Nibe Defence and Aerospace Ltd Inaugurated by Navy Chief

Pune: The new manufacturing plant of Nibe Defence and Aerospace Limited in Pune, Maharashtra was recently inaugurated by Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of Naval Staff. The event highlighted the significant role of the Indian Navy in promoting self-reliance in the defence sector, with a focus on the indigenisation of defence equipment production.

A prominent medium and small enterprise in the defence sector, Nibe Defence and Aerospace Limited has been actively involved in various crucial projects, including the development of canisters for vertical missile launchers, road-mobile launchers for missile systems, and launchers for the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems.

Praising the rapid progress made by Nibe Defence and Aerospace Limited during the inauguration, Admiral R Hari Kumar emphasised the critical role of advanced equipment and machinery in enhancing the country’s self-reliance in defence production.

He said, “A very substantial capability that has been built in a very short time… So this is a tremendous capability for Aatmanirbharta. If you want to make defence equipment in the country, then you need the equipment, the machines. This is a fully automated facility and it will make a substantial difference in the ability to make weapon-grade equipment for ships, airframes, weapon systems on board ships or submarines, torpedo tubes and anything that requires very high precision.”

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and fully automated, the newly inaugurated manufacturing plant is expected to significantly enhance the production capacity of weapon-grade equipment for ships, airframes, weapon systems aboard ships or submarines, torpedo tubes, and other precision instruments.

Reiterating the Indian Navy’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in defence production by 2047, Admiral Kumar emphasised the importance of collaboration with the industry in achieving this goal. He also announced upcoming major naval operations involving the fleets of both aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, off the West coast in the next ten days. This operationalisation will further demonstrate the navy’s capabilities and preparedness.

The inauguration of the Nibe Defence and Aerospace manufacturing plant marks a significant milestone in the indigenisation of defence production in India.
