Hub-and-Spoke Model to Generate 4 Lakh Jobs by 2030: Civil Aviation Minister

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has announced that India’s Hub-and-Spoke aviation model is expected to generate around 4 lakh jobs and create an additional economic activity worth Rs. 2.82 lakh crore (US$ 30 billion) by 2030, highlighting its potential to transform the country’s aviation ecosystem and strengthen economic growth.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Hub-and-Spoke flight service at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, the Minister described the initiative as not only an aviation reform but also a significant economic opportunity.

Under the new model, passengers from Amritsar, which previously had direct international connectivity to seven destinations, will now gain seamless access to nearly 20 international destinations, including Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok and Paris, through Delhi, improving global connectivity and passenger convenience.

The Hub-and-Spoke flight service was inaugurated by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, who explained that the Government has identified major international airports as aviation hubs while developing smaller international airports as spokes to strengthen regional and global air connectivity.

The model is expected to streamline international travel, improve route efficiency and enhance connectivity between tier-II cities and global destinations. By expanding access to international markets, reducing travel complexity and strengthening aviation infrastructure, the initiative is expected to support tourism, trade and business travel while creating employment opportunities across the aviation value chain.

The Hub-and-Spoke framework also reinforces the Government’s vision of developing a modern, efficient and globally connected aviation network that supports regional development, boosts economic activity and enhances India’s position as a leading international aviation hub.
