Mumbai. Indian technical-textile manufacturer Kusumgar Limited has signed a long-term supply agreement with Safran, creating an opportunity to expand its role in the global aerospace supply chain.
The companies have not disclosed the materials, production programmes, contract value or expected supply volumes covered by the agreement. The announcement says the deal will support Safran’s supply chain and ongoing production programmes, while strengthening Kusumgar’s aerospace business. It marks a significant step for the Indian manufacturer, which is seeking to apply its specialised fabric expertise in demanding sectors.
Kusumgar’s product development centres on engineered fabrics and functional materials, rather than standardised textiles alone. The company says it works with polyamides, polyester filaments and polyurethane chemistry, tailoring fabric construction to customer specifications. Applications can require strength against tearing and abrasion, dimensional stability, controlled air permeability, waterproofing and durability-properties that can be critical in aerospace and defence uses.
The company’s capabilities extend across weaving, finishing, coating and lamination. Its website lists manufacturing facilities in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, with more than 1,000 employees and production capacity exceeding five million metres of technical fabrics and textiles per month. It also describes testing and development facilities for evaluating mechanical, thermal and chemical performance.
Kusumgar holds AS 9100D certification, an aerospace-sector quality-management standard, alongside certifications including ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Such systems are relevant to suppliers serving tightly controlled industries, where repeatable product quality, traceability and dependable deliveries matter alongside material performance. The agreement’s precise qualification requirements have not been made public.
Aerospace and defence are established parts of Kusumgar’s portfolio. The company lists parachute fabrics, cargo-drop systems, recovery and drogue parachutes, tactical assault parachute systems, military clothing materials and other specialised solutions. It also serves industrial, automotive, outdoor and lifestyle markets, with products for applications requiring properties such as flame retardancy, thermal resistance, adhesion and mechanical strength.
That range gives Kusumgar experience with performance-driven materials across different end uses, while the Safran agreement offers a route to deepen its aerospace participation. However, without disclosure of the parts or programmes involved, the immediate operational and financial impact of the contract cannot yet be assessed.
Safran is an international high-technology group active in aviation, defence and space. Its businesses include aircraft engines, electrical systems, landing gear, aircraft interiors and other equipment. In an unrelated strategic cooperation announcement in June 2026, Safran described collaboration with EDGE Group across defence technologies and programmes, illustrating its broader use of partnerships to combine industrial expertise.
For Kusumgar, the agreement’s importance lies in its potential to connect an Indian technical-textile producer with a major aerospace group’s supply chain. Long-term supplier relationships in such sectors can depend on consistent output and the ability to meet demanding technical and quality specifications. The available announcement provides no timeline for deliveries or details about whether the arrangement involves new manufacturing investment.
The deal comes as Kusumgar presents itself as a specialised materials manufacturer with integrated processing and application-specific product development. Its next challenge will be converting the agreement into sustained production while meeting Safran’s requirements, and how substantially the partnership could expand the company’s position in aerospace ecosystem.
