Navy Gives Facelift to Destitute Home in Kochi

 

Kochi. In a gesture of goodwill, Indian Navy personnel of INS Venduruthy based here gave a facelift to a destitute home operating under the aegis of the Kochi corporation “Palluruthy Relief Settlement.”

INS Venduruthy has been extending its help to the Old Age Home at Palluruthy for improving the quality of life of the residents as part of its Platinum Jubilee commemorative activities.

Vice Admiral AK Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Southern Naval Command (SNC) visited the Old Age Home and interacted with the residents. The institution houses more than 200 inmates including senior citizens from various parts of Kerala. The Admiral assured them of the continued support by the SNC in meeting their needs.

A number of activities have been undertaken by INS Venduruthy at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs towards supporting the Home. These include civil works such as provisioning of anti-skid tiles, truss work, roofing, creation of ramps, fitment of LED lights, painting, repairs to bathrooms and clearance of clogged septic tanks using sewage suction trucks which have improved the habitability of the place.

Besides the work undertaken, various items have also been provided to the Home such as a refrigerator, water coolers, stainless steel work tables, plate racks, containers for storage of dry provisions as also donation of clothes, bed sheets and winter wear. The personnel from INS Venduruthy made regular visits to clear the area of plastics and waste materials.
