Air India (AI) CEO Campbell Wilson in his weekly email to employees announced that the airline plans to feature two of its new planes at the aviation event – Wings India 2024 in January. He further mentioned that the airline has received two additional narrow-body A320neos, set to commence operations in December. Additionally, he noted the completion of the title transfer for the fourth A350, slated to join the fleet in February.

The recent announcement by Wilson regarding new plane arrivals appears to respond to the frequent criticism of Air India for its aging and outdated in-flight services. It communicates the new management’s commitment to enhancing the quality of the passenger experience.

The use of its existing old fleet is necessitated while the airline is expanding its international network.  The induction of new planes are scheduled over the coming years. Despite efforts to reshape its image as a world-class carrier, incidents like the one on the Gatwick-Amritsar flight may be counterproductive, contributing to the challenges faced in improving the airline’s perception.
