According to the Israeli defence forces this was a preemptive operation against a huge assault by rockets and armed UAV.

The IDF says that thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers were struck simultaneously by heavy bombs and rockets. Only a small number of rockets hit Israeli cities in the northern part of Israel.

The Hezbollah strike was a response to the killing of the terror organisations’ military commander Fuad Shukr in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut last month.

According to the IDF, some 220 rockets and some 25 drones were launched from Lebanon at northern Israel in Hezbollah’s attack. Some of the projectiles were intercepted, while others impacted, causing damage and injuries. Many rockets also struck open areas.
