Naval Officer Commodore Jyotin Raina Awarded Nao Sena Medal for Gallantry

New Delhi: In the wake of the Pulwama attack by terrorists on a CRPF convoy, Commodore Jyotin Raina of the Indian Navy has been awarded the Nao Sena Medal (gallantry) for ensuring that the Western Fleet was ready to meet operational tasks.

Raina is currently the Fleet Operations Officer of the Navy’s Western Fleet.

“In the aftermath of the Pulwama attacks, the officer, in a display of professional excellence, promptitude, vision and personal leadership of high standards, ensured that the Western Fleet re-oriented and was ready in all respects for meeting all operational tasks within a very rapid time frame,” the statement said.

It said the “bold actions” by the officer to ensure the turnaround of own ships despite presence of enemy submarines off harbours was based on conscientious planning.

“With enemy maritime reconnaissance aircraft in close vicinity and the ever present threat of shore-based fighters, the officer displayed outstanding operational application, constantly refining the deployment plans based on the developing operational situation.

“He incorporated spatial and temporal considerations, ensuring that the Western Fleet was stood to combat any misadventure by the adversary,” the statement added.
