Israel’s IDF-led Multi-dimensional Unit to be Operational Soon to Perform Special Missions

Tel Aviv. Israel defense forces (IDF) multi-dimensional unit will soon be declared fully operational.

The unit will use systems that would enable it to perform special missions aimed at stopping enemy fire as fast as possible. This is by locating the enemy’s precise location and hit him with concentrated fire.

The unit will have its own capabilities of intelligence, target location, identification and data fusion. This will be achieved by the unit’s self-controlled sensors and data transfer and data fusion tools.

One good example for the special weapons is the Rafael micro loitering weapon systems carrying explosives.

FireFly (Maoz) was designed for fighting within the urban arena where situational awareness is limited, the enemy is behind cover, and precision is critical.

FireFly is rapidly deployed within seconds. It is portable, durable and includes a rugged airframe to withstand the harsh environment of urban combat. Its single-user operation is designed for the dismounted soldier – light, small, and agile.

FireFly features a dual seeker, target tracker, homing algorithms, computer vision, Safe & Arm fusing mechanisms, and a rugged tablet-based HMI (Human Machine Interface).

Rafael says that the operation of FireFly is very intuitive, with no special skills required. FireFly enables overmatch to break combat deadlock, and has a lethal effect on stationary and moving targets with or without line-of-sight to operator.

FireFly has an abort/wave-off capability and full, safe return capability to the operator up to attack command. It can be operated day and night, and has low visual and acoustic signature.

According to Rafael, FireFly will dramatically revolutionize the infantry doctrines in urban close-combat, enabling precision engagement for the lower tactical echelons beyond-line-of-sight. This, according to the company, will give IDF soldiers a tactical edge in close combat. We see the FireFly as a building block in future potential applications for a large variety of battle arenas ensure you.

The IDF’s new multidimensional unit has been exposed – it is based very generally on the idea of the US military concept of Revolution in military affairs (RMA) that was developed years ago in order to lay the basis for the change in the US army.

The new unit is described as a “Battalion with the capabilities of a division.”

Israeli sources said that the unit will be able to directly operate air and sea units to get the advantage in battle. This is without the need to ask other military echelons to aid or even coordinate.
