RUAG: Suppliers are key to Mission Success

Increasing time and cost pressure requires a re-thinking of products, processes, but also of supplier-customer collaboration.

RUAG Space offers high-performance, reliable products for launch vehicles and satellites, offering engineering, design and production. “We are at the forefront of the industrialization of the space industry that is happening, driving process optimization and giving our customers the competitive edge,” says Peter Guggenbach, CEO of RUAG Space.

The future is built on strong partnerships

Seamless collaboration between system integrator and supplier is key to mission success. RUAG Space works together with their customers from the very beginning. Many times this will allow integrators to use recurrent products off the shelf, without sacrificing system performance. “We listen to our customers, and help them to make their project more competitive. We bring in our expertise in the engineering and development phase and support the customer in shaping the best solution,” describes Peter Guggenbach.

Trust is a key element

Reliability builds trust and confidence. “Our customers know they can rely on us,” says Peter Guggenbach. “We have an excellent track record in on-time delivery, and our products show a zero percent failure rate. For instance, our payload adapter and separation systems have been used more than 660 times so far – with 100 percent mission success.”

Evolution means combining legacy with agility

Providing such a success rate in future means that it is not enough to build on established products, no matter how successful they were so far. Evolution is non-negotiable for RUAG Space, Peter Guggenbach explains: “From continuous improvement in processes up to innovative additions to the product portfolio, we aim to get better at what we do, every day.” For instance, with the help of a new automated process for satellite structures RUAG Space reduced the lead time by 50%.

Agile thinking and implementation are crucial in order to accelerate design and production. This goes beyond execution speed. Flexibility is essential, also to changing customer requirements very late in the design.
