Tel Aviv: Following the initial use of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) by the US army in the current war with Iran, the Pentagon decided to procure a large number of these weapon systems. The initial use of this advanced missile was in early March.
According to sources, the advanced missile was used to attack Iranian high-value targets in ranges of up to 500 km.
The Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) is Lockheed Martin’s next-generation, long-range precision-strike missile designed for the US Army. This new surface-to-surface weapon system delivers enhanced capabilities to attack, neutralise, suppress, and destroy targets using missile-delivered to ranges of up to 500 km.
According to the Lockheed Martin, PrSM provides the Joint Force Commander with increased range, lethality, survivability and missile load out. These enhanced capabilities are critical to the successful execution of fires in support of combined Joint All-Domain Operations.
PrSM is compatible with MLRS M270 and HIMARS family of launchers. On March 25, Lockheed Martin announced that that a framework agreement was signed to accelerate the production of Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). The agreement builds on a previous US $4.94 billion contract award from the US Army last year and together, these actions will quadruple PrSM production capacity.
According to Lockheed Martin, this initiative directly supports the national imperative to build a more lethal, resilient and ready fighting force, backed by a stronger, advanced industrial base.
“The agreement includes the ability to negotiate a multi-year contract up to seven years, should Congress grant multi-year authority, contingent upon future congressional authorisation,” said Lockheed Martin.
