OFC Lab Inaugurated at Signal School

Kochi: A State of the Art and one of its kind Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) Training Lab was inaugurated at Signal School by Rear Admiral Antony George, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command here on February 23.

The OFC training lab will be used to impart theoretical and practical training to communication Officers and Sailors in optical fiber care and maintenance. The lab is equipped with modern splicing tools for fusion splicing, fault detection kits to identify the types of defects, Tactical Mobile Fiber Optic Cable (TMFOC) enclosure and Optical Termination Box (OTB) for training on last mile connectivity and Optical Network Inventory Tool software (ONIT) for monitoring and management of the 5500 km OFC infrastructure.

The lab will be another feather in the cap to the existing advanced training infrastructure at Signal School, which is the premier training establishment of the Indian Navy in the field of Naval Communication, Electronic Warfare, Information Warfare and Networks.
