Mahesh V is new Director (R&D), BEL

Bangalore. Mahesh V took charge as Director (R&D) of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) on June 1.

He was working as Executive Director (Technology Planning) at BEL’s Corporate Office before his elevation.

Mr Mahesh joined BEL-Bangalore in March 1985 after completing his BE (Electronics) from R V College of Engineering, Bangalore. In a span of 33 years, he has gained rich experience working in diverse areas of technology.

His first assignment at BEL was the development of Telemetry Systems, Control Systems for antenna tracking of launch vehicles and Timing Systems for the Indian Space Programme, in association with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

He had a brief stint at D&E Radar before moving to Electronic Warfare & Avionics. During his 12-year stint at the EW&A Strategic Business Unit of BEL-Bangalore, he was involved in the development of Communication ESM & ECM systems, in association with DLRL/DRDO.

He was instrumental in the in-house development of communication interception, monitoring & analysis systems for Government agencies. He also led development teams for diversification into other emerging areas of Electronic Warfare.

During his tenure as Additional General Manager (D&E/TCS/Milcom)/BEL-Bangalore from April 2010 to August 2012, Mr Mahesh facilitated collaborative development of various network elements, both in-house and with selected technology partners.

In September 2012, he was promoted as Chief Scientist of BEL’s Central Research Laboratory in Bangalore. At CRL-Bangalore, he led a team of around 230 scientists working in the diverse areas of Communication, Network Systems, Embedded Systems, Radar Signal Processing, Sensor Signal Processing, RF and Microwave Technologies, Communication & Network Security and Cyber Security Solutions for five years.

He was later elevated as Executive Director (Electronic Warfare & Avionics) at BEL-Bangalore. Mr Mahesh has been a part of many expert review committees of various research labs and academic institutes. He has been featured as one of the ‘100 Managers of Excellence’ in the book, titled “100 Managers in Action”, written by Prof T V Rao.
