Iran-Backed Groups Have Attacked American Bases in Syria 89 Times Since Start of 2024: SOHR

Date:

Tel Aviv: In a report from November 19, 2024, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Syrian opposition outlet, counted 89 attacks by Iran-backed groups on American bases in Syria since the start of 2024.
These attacks included both drone attacks and missile fire, originating in Syria and Iraq. In response, aerial and ground defences in the bases were strengthened, the report added.
Iran is supplying its proxies with a steady flow of different types of armed drones.
The report is quoted on the website of the Middle East Media Research Institute  (MEMRI). According to this report in January 2024, there were 39 attacks on American bases, “leading to casualties and material damage,” including three dead soldiers. February saw 15 attacks on American bases, leaving at least three American service members dead. Over the next months, American forces were on average targeted a handful of times each month, except October, when US bases in Syria were attacked 12 times.
The SOHR report concluded that in total, since the beginning of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, American bases in Syria have been attacked 156 times, with the first on October 19, 2023.
