Air India Becomes First Indian Airline to Receive DOA – CAR 21 Approval from DGCA

New Delhi: Air India  announced that it has received the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), designated as CAR 21 approval. This approval enables Air India to independently manage in-house design changes and modifications to its aircraft interiors, enhancing efficiency and customer experience.

Air India is now the first Indian airline to obtain this level of authorisation, a step that significantly strengthens its capability to implement continuous improvements across its fleet.

The approval was presented on October 25, by DGCA Director General D.C. Sharma to Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, with senior officials from Air India and DGCA present.

“India’s aviation sector is on a growth trajectory and Air India is playing a leading role in it. The approval reaffirms our capabilities to maintain our fleet and commitment to enhance customer experience of our aircraft interiors,” Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India said.

The collaboration with Tata Technologies will help us meet customer expectations, aligning with our broader goals of operational excellence and self-reliance,” Wilson added.

Warren Harris, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Technologies, said that the partnership with Air India represents a significant step forward in redefining air travel experiences through innovation and strategic engineering.

Air India earlier entered into a partnership with Tata Technologies to advance aircraft interior enhancements aligned with CAR 21 standards. This collaboration, alongside the DOA, underscores Air India’s commitment to self-reliance and operational excellence, further supported by recent plans to establish in-house engineering, maintenance, and training facilities.

The partnership will streamline airline’s operations through advanced digital solutions and smart Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. “This will improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure that Air India’s fleet remains fit to fly, further enhancing passenger safety, comfort and operational reliability,” the airline said.
