New Delhi: Indian Navy in association with DRDO successfully undertook guided flight trials of the first indigenously developed naval anti-ship missile from Seaking 42B helicopter on 21 November 2023.
This firing is a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in niche missile technology, including seeker and guidance technologies, said Indian Navy in a post on its official X handle. The missile was first tested in May 2022.
The missile employs several new technologies, including an indigenously developed launcher for the helicopter. The missile guidance system includes a state-of-the-art navigation system and integrated avionics, according to an official statement issued after the maiden flight test.
In another development, the Indian Navy achieved a significant milestone as Imphal (Yard 12706), its latest indigenous guided missile destroyer, excelled in its inaugural BRAHMOS missile firing at sea and scored ‘Bulls Eye’.
INS Imphal, the third in the Visakhapatnam-class stealth-guided missile destroyers, signifies ‘Aatmanibharta’ and showcases India’s naval prowess. Designed by the Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Imphal stands as a testament to indigenous shipbuilding and technological advancement. The destroyer, equipped with cutting-edge weapons and sensors, reflects a significant achievement for the Indian Navy.
The successful test of the Extended Range BRAHMOS missile, conducted before the warship’s official commissioning, stands as a testament to the Navy’s steadfast commitment to combat preparedness, Aatmanirbhar Bharat’s growing shipbuilding prowess and assured reliability of indigenous weapons and platforms.
