Experiencing Shortage, India’s IndiGo to Wet-Lease Six B737 Aircraft

Date:

New Delhi: IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi International) will wet-lease six B737 aircraft from Corendon Airlines (XC, Antalya) over the upcoming northern winter, according to ch-aviation research. The aircraft are due to operate on behalf of the Indian low-cost carrier between December 14, 2024, and March 29, 2025.

At least two B737-8s have already ferried to India, namely TC-MKC (msn 65900) and TC-MKD (msn 65186).

IndiGo is experiencing a shortage of aircraft due to Pratt & Whitney engines and other supply chain challenges. It is already wet leasing fifteen A320-200s from assorted SmartLynx operators, six B737-8s from Qatar Airways, and two B777-300ERs from Turkish Airlines.

Since the end of the pandemic, India has loosened its formerly strict regulations on wet leasing foreign aircraft. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation will soon devise new rules to streamline local oversight of wet-leased aircraft from countries with high ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme scores.
