Israel Aerospace Industries’ ELI-3312 Huntereye Offers Tailored Solution for Vulnerability of Tanks from Warheads Dropped by Multi-Rotor Drones

Tel Aviv: Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is offering a solution for the vulnerability of tanks from warheads dropped by multi-rotor drones. This problem forced the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) to come up with an interim solution dubbed “cope cage” – a metal net welded to the upper part of the tank to protect the IDF’s Merkava 4 main battle tanks (MBT).

These metal nets are designed to set off anti-tank charges dropped from above, before they come into contact with the tank itself. This interim solution is affective to a point but more advanced protection systems are now being evaluated.

ELTA, the electronic division of IAI is offering a tailored solution for this problem, the ELI-3312 Huntereye. This is a family of compact target acquisition sensors for target acquisition and cueing, designed to be installed on light to heavy Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) and Main Battle Tanks (MBT). The ELI-3312 Huntereye provides a real-time situational awareness.

The system combines the capabilities of two main sensors into a single sensor system: a ground surveillance radar for immediately detection and identification, and an embedded Electro-Optical (EO) fire source sensor, installed on an integrated Remote Weapon Station (RWS). The system is modular and can be easily adapted to various weapon stations and guns.
