Nuclear Capable Prithvi-II Missile Successfully Test Fired

 

New Delhi: Two rounds of the indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile was successfully test fired back-to-back on night of November 20 as part of a user trial by the Army from a mobile launcher from Launch Complex-3 of Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district of Odisha.

The trial of the surface-to-surface missile with a strike range of 350 km was carried out from a mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the ITR at 7:05 pm which was described as a routine trial.

The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1,000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines. The state-of-the-art missile uses an advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvring orbit to hit its target.

Earlier, the night time test fire of Prithvi-II was conducted successfully from the ITR on February 21, 2018.

Prithvi was inducted into the Armour of the defence forces in 2003.
