Tel Aviv: The Lebanese government is trying to gain control of the country, currently ruled by the Hezbollah terror organisation, one of the major Iranian proxies. This brought the government to request urgent arms deliveries from France.
The Lebanese army requested quick shipments of military weapons in early March 2026 to aid in regaining control over the Iran-backed militia, Hezbollah, as tensions with Israel and Hezbollah escalated.
Armoured transport vehicles, operational support, and logistical aid would be delivered to the Lebanese Armed Forces as part of strengthened collaboration, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
This came after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun held discussions with French military leaders, during which he called for measures to address the dangers facing southern Lebanon, and France pledged to help avert further regional tensions.
The Lebanese military requested used VAB armoured vehicles, drones, anti-drone technology, and more munitions for fire support to counter Hezbollah’s influence and enhance the security of its southern borders.
This builds on prior deals like anti-tank missiles and helicopters, but the 2026 talks emphasise rapid delivery of these items amid escalating regional tensions.
