Tel Aviv: The Indian navy will equip most of its surface ships with an Israeli developed air defence system, a special version of Barak 8 air defence system.
Last week, the Indian ministry of defence purchased 70 MRSAM (medium-range surface-to-air missile) from Indian company Bharat Dynamics , the partner of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in India . The contract is valued at about $340 million. IAI developed this system that is now being offered in different versions.
The Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy all use the MRSAM system, which offers defence against a variety of aerial threats. More than 1,000 aerial threats can be tracked at once, and it is effective up to 70 kilometres away. It includes mobile launchers, interceptors with sophisticated radio frequency sensors, a command and control system, and a phased array radar.
According to IAI, MRSAM is an advanced path-breaking air and missile defence system that provides ultimate protection against a variety of aerial platforms. The system includes an advanced phased array radar, command and control, mobile launchers and interceptors with advanced RF Seeker.
