BEL Signs MoU with IIT Mandi for Cooperation in R&D, Product Development

Bengaluru. Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, for cooperation in research and technology/product development — in the areas of semiconductors, quantum technologies and drones.

The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and IIT-Mandi. It will support indigenisation of products/solutions being supplied by BEL to its customers and is in line with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

BEL, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, occupies leadership position in India’s defence / strategic electronics market. BEL is a premier electronics company engaged inter alia in the design, development and manufacture of professional-grade electronic equipment, systems, sub-systems and modules in the areas of communications, electro-Optics, electronic warfare, radars, satcom, telecommunications and networking, solar photovoltaic, strategic electronic components and civilian.

BEL is working in the fields of IoT, cloud computing, big data analytics, network management systems, artificial intelligence, smart cities, mission critical communication, large networks solution, telecom and switching products, unmanned systems, quantum technologies, etc. The company is a preferred system manufacturer and integrator for numerous defence programmes in India.

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi is one among the eight, newer, second generation IITs. It is a research university located in Kamand Valley, Mandi city, Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Established in 2009, IIT-Mandi has in the last 15 years developed good infrastructure to foster quality research in the fields of science and engineering. The institute ranks amongst the best technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development.

At present, IIT Mandi consists of nine schools (Biosciences & Bioengineering, Computing & Electrical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management, Mechanical & Materials Engineering, Mathematical & Statistical Sciences and Physical Sciences) and six centres (Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Applications Centre – IKSMHA, Advance Material Research Centre – AMRC, Centre for Design & Fabrication of Electronic Devices – C4DFED, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics – CAIR, Bio X Centre and Center for Quantum Science and Technologies – CQST).
