Tel Aviv: Israel may attack Iranian related targets in Iraq considering intelligence data confirmation that Iranian weapon system are being assembled and manufactured in Iraq.
According to sources, Iranian military officials oversee this operation, which is carried out through clandestine collaboration with regional pro-Iranian militias. Iran has increased its military-industrial presence in Iraq since 2014 in order to produce and store missiles, drones, and other weapons locally, primarily for use by regional proxy groups and occasionally even for Iraq’s own defence requirements.
The town of Jurf al-Sakhar in Babil Province is cited as a central zone where Iran-backed factions have established facilities for producing drones and missiles under Iranian control, sources said. These facilities are positioned in a way that makes it easier to move supplies across the border and into neighboring combat areas like Syria and Lebanon.
The production and storage of a variety of weaponry, including as 107 mm and 122 mm rockets, surface-to-surface missiles, and drones like the Mohajer and Shahed, are confirmed by reports. Long-range missiles and loitering munitions, including those with Iranian insignia and recent fabrication dates, have been supplied to pro-Iranian forces in Iraq.
Iran publicly showcased and advertised its cutting-edge drones, ballistic missiles, such as the Raad-500 and Zolfaqar, and air defence systems at recent Iraqi defence expos, demonstrating a desire to either develop in Iraq or transfer technology.
Intelligence sources said that weapons found in Iraq often bear recent Iranian manufacturing marks, and intelligence tracks frequent shipments and transfers from Iran to local militias. Advanced drones, loitering munitions, and missiles found in Iraq are believed to be assembled either from Iranian kits or produced under Iranian technical guidance.
