NEW DELHI (India). CRON Systems, India’s defence IoT start-up and one of the YourNest backed companies, on September 27 announced the launch of 3 marquee technology solutions for India’s growing border security and surveillance needs. The next-gen products and services include Kavach Z, CRON GeoSight and a state-of-the-art technology centre. These new introductions come at a time when the Government of India is closely pursuing the ambitious Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIMBS) project, meant to provide round-the-clock surveillance on the border. The indigenously designed and developed solutions will also give a fillip to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and will empower perimeter security with products and solutions made in India.

CRON is a deep-tech company that is focused on deploying cutting edge solutions for border security. The company already has installations for the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Army securing sensitive international borders as well as perimeters of sensitive installations like army camps and airports. CRON Systems develops IoST (Internet of Security Things) and laser-based intrusion detection systems that can detect-track-classify and report both human and mechanical intrusions. CRON combines deep research in lasers, data science, Artificial Intelligence, secured communications and automation to offer an extremely accurate and seamless intruder detection and deterrence infrastructure. Current product line includes integrated intrusion detection and smart fencing solution, comprising laser walls and Situational Awareness Tools.

“Our aim is to secure India’s 15,000 km long border, where our products can radically improve counter-insurgency measures. With the launch of Kavach Z, CRON GeoSight and the state-of-the-art technology centre in Leh, we have moved much closer to our vision. It is a gratifying feeling that within 2 years of inception, we have already developed one of the most sophisticated and accurate perimeter security systems in the world especially customised for the Indian borders. It has multiple elements, all of which combine to offer impenetrable surveillance to any kind of border”

The Company recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a strategic collaboration to upgrade detection features of its advanced ‘Kavach – Z’ series for Indian armed forces and perimeter security with Quanergy Systems, Inc., a global leader in the design and development of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors and smart sensing solutions. As part of the MoU, CRON Systems, which has been working with Indian armed forces for perimeter security, will now team up with Quanergy to provide cutting-edge perimeter security to Indian forces. This could become a game changer for dealing with insurgency and illegal immigration.

Speaking at the launch, Tushar Chhabra, Co-founder & CEO CRON Systems said, “Our aim is to secure India’s 15,000 km long border, where our products can radically improve counter-insurgency measures. It has multiple elements, all of which combine to offer impenetrable surveillance to any kind of border. We have seen tremendous response for our products from different quarters and will continue to strengthen our R&D and innovate further”.

A BRIEF ABOUT THE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT WERE LAUNCHED:

1. Kavach Z: Perimeter security is one of the most vital components any country’s national security and anti-terrorism program. While physical barriers are important to demarcate boundaries and provide a deterrence to trespassers, they fail to prevent well planned and orchestrated attacks. By virtue of being visible to the naked eye, a countermeasure can easily by planned. The revolutionary Kavach Z is the only way to prevent intrusions providing actionable intelligence about the potential attacks. Quanergy’s LiDAR technology will provide Kavach Z with the ability to see’ ahead of the perimeter boundary. Kavach Z provides a complete 360-degree situational awareness to the defending forces by detecting object approaching the perimeter from as far as 200m away. It has the ability to detect, track and classify objects as threats providing the defending forces with vital information beforehand, giving them time to prepare to intercept and neutralize the threat.

2. CRON GeoSight: Zero visibility, unknown terrain, insufficient GIS information coupled with insurgency and ambush are some of the major struggles of the armed forces in their day to day affairs which resulting in soldier casualties. Most of the terrains and places where armed forces are deployed or where their vehicles navigate suffer from zero visibility and lack of mapping information. This leads to major problems in planning tactical missions, loss of vehicles and casualties. CRON System’s GeoSight is an advanced 3D scanner for surveillance and mapping. Its robust design makes it capable of providing reliable results in even the most extreme environmental conditions, relying on multiple laser beams that work on the Time of Flight principle to create an accurate 3D visualization of the surrounding area.

3. Technology Centre: Leh records one of the lowest minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir. Rough winds, scarcity of oxygen coupled with harsh weather conditions make Leh not only difficult to inhabit but also detaches it from the rest of the country. With the armed forces guarding the J&K region against the internal insurgencies as well as militancy of our neighbours, there is no provision for any technical support for the advanced equipment used by them in their endeavours to protect the country. In times when the equipment faulters, the forces have to rely heavily on when maintenance is made available or are written off because of the inaccessibility of a service station (most likely in the nearest metro); all these hurdles add to the monumental expense that is incurred by the government. CRON Systems has taken the initiative to open a Technology Centre to provide technical support and maintenance for the crucial equipment used by the forces. Availability of technology centre and accessibility of ground support is what this tech centre will provide for the forces.

CRON’s disruptive push to develop state-of-the-art intrusion detection systems, indigenously developed at a fraction of the cost has been well-recognised by India’s Defence sector. Launches of Kavach Z, CRON GeoSight and a state-of-the-art technology centre at Leh is poised to give a huge fillip to India’s perimeter security.
