BEL Signs Multiple MoUs to Leverage Wide-ranging Tech Capabilities

Bengaluru: Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Profense LLC – US, DPSUs Yantra India Limited (YIL) and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), SVC Tech Ventures LLP and start-up Spacefaring Technologies Pvt Ltd for co-operation across a variety of technological fields.

Bharat Electronics said that the MoU with Profense LLC- US aimed for co-operation in the manufacturing and marketing of light weapons and leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of both companies. It will enable the two companies to jointly develop light weapons for market requirements, current and future.

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, in the United States, Profense LLC is a leading company specialised in the business of Defence weapon systems’ manufacturing, system integration and training. Profense is registered with various US Government agencies to manufacture and support weapon systems for domestic and foreign use, and has requisite National Stock Numbers (NSNs) for direct commercial or foreign military sales.

BEL’s signed the MoU with Yantra India Limited (YIL), a Defence PSU for co-operation in the areas of Ammunition Hardware and Military Grade Components to jointly address the requirements of Indian Defence and Export markets. The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and YIL and sharing of manufacturing and Test infrastructure/resources for the production of Arms and Ammunition and related systems.

According to Bharat Electronics Ltd, the MoU was signed with Defence PSU, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) to carry out joint development, manufacturing and product upgrades of identified products / systems and to capitalise on the emerging opportunities in the domestic Defence, non-Defence and Export markets. HSL has earned the rare distinction of completing construction of 200 vessels and repairs of 2,000 ships, since the launch of its first ship, Jala Usha, in 1948.

Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, Director (Other Units), who is currently holding Additional Charge of Chairman & Managing Director & Director (Marketing), BEL, and S K Yadav, Director (Operations), YIL, exchanging the MoU signed between BEL and YIL at DefExpo 2022, in the presence of Manoj Jain, Director (R&D), G Suryanarayana Murthy, GM (BEL-Pune), and other senior officers of BEL.  

While signing the MoU with SVC Tech Ventures LLP for co-operation in the manufacturing and marketing of Heavy Duty Blast Doors, BEL said that the MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and SVC TECH VENTURES LLP. It will enable the two companies to collaborate as partners in the design/development of new and improved Heavy Duty Blast Doors for the protection of Defence establishments and national assets.

Bharat Electronics also signed an MoU with Spacefaring Technologies Pvt Ltd for co-operation in technology development in the field of fabric-based Radome, Shelters, deployable space habitats, aerostat, etc., for Defence and non-Defence applications. It aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and Spacefaring. It will enable both the companies to address the diverse needs of the Indian Defence forces and civilian customers for protection of personnel and critical defence assets, rapidly-deployable unpressurised and pressurised radomes, next-generation aerostat airborne long-range surveillance platform system.

Bangalore based start-up, Spacefaring Technologies Pvt Ltd is engaged in the design, development and production of a variety of soft goods or deployable/inflatable systems for critical defence and space exploration applications not limited to advanced shelters for extreme environments, unpressurised and pressurised radomes, aerostats, deployable space habitats, micrometeoroid, and orbital debris ballistic shielding. Spacefaring has exceptional soft goods and inflatable manufacturing capabilities that meet the stringent requirements of Defence and space applications. Spacefaring and its personnel have extensive experience working in hardware and software developments with NASA, ISRO, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, etc.
